What is A2 protein milk?
Nearly everyone knows milk is good source of calcium, but it is also an excellent source of protein.
Milk contains two types of proteins – casein and whey. Casein is 80% of the milk protein, while whey is 20%. Casein is a slow-digesting protein that contains all the essential amino acids your body needs. It also contains various unique proteins and bioactive compounds, some of which have health benefits.
There are several types of casein in milk. Beta-casein is the second most prevalent (30% of milk protein). The two most common forms are A1 beta-casein and the type in our milk, A2 beta-casein.
Why A2 protein milk?
Drinking regular milk can cause abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and gas in some people. Lactose intolerance is often blamed for these symptoms
Is it Lactose or Protein Intolerance?
The amount of lactose in A1 and A2 milk is the same. However, many people feel that milk containing only A2 protein causes less bloating than A1 milk. Scientists have suggested that milk components, such as some proteins (including A1-beta casein), other than lactose may cause digestive discomforts. Those proteins may be responsible for some people’s milk intolerance. Research on the cause of these symptoms and others is ongoing.
